Hakusan shrine

Hakusan shrine is situated in the neighborhood of Koishikawa just next to Hakusan station of subway Mita line.

Its foundation goes back to tenth century, when it was built in the neighborhood of Hongo as a branch of Hakusan shrine of Kaga. The shrine was removed to the present site in 1655 by Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, who later became the fifth shogun, as he wanted
to build his mansion on the site where the shrine had been standing. After Tsunayoshi became the shogun, the shrine got bigger because Tsunayoshi and his mother Keishoin patronized this shrine.

The shrine is famous for its beautiful garden of hydrangea.
